We talk to Katie about being a Mum!

We spoke to founder and creative director, Katie Loxton, to discover what being a mum means to her and how she balances life and being a mum!

We talk to Katie about being a mum
Katie Loxton's family

What’s the most valuable advice you’ve learned from your own Mum?

My mum always instilled in me and my brothers from a young age that we could truly achieve anything we ever wanted, if we worked hard enough. She never minded what we did as long as we loved it and we were happy. She made us believe we could achieve anything, even if we didn’t have the knowledge or skills yet. Shes a huge part of why I dream big and it’s something I try to encourage in others too.

How do you create the perfect balance between work, socialising and mum time?

I’m not sure that a perfect balance exists! It’s definitely a lot more of a juggle now than ever before. Our work has always been a main priority but since becoming a mum I’ve had to make sure my time is completely balanced. I adore being with our little boy so it’s not hard to be very clear on my priorities, making sure I get the most time with him as possible! Its not something that’s ever perfect but I think making sure we keep our weekends clear just for family time and enjoying seeing our friends on weeknights means we can balance the best of each world! For New Year’swe invited all our closest friends over to our house for a dinner party so we could all get together, put all the children to sleep and have a proper catch up once they were all down. There’s a new normal but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Has your style changed since becoming a mum?

I’ve definitely had to develop a lot more of a capsule collection! Time is a luxury now so my every day style is quite simple - I’ve always been a fan of neutrals, blacks, greys and white, but I love a hero jumper now with trainers and statement jewellery, saving my super glam moments for evenings out or work events, where I’m not running after a little toddler!

What does being a woman today mean to you and what qualities do you want to encourage in other females?

I believe women are strong, capable and inspiring, and I think kindness is one of the main things I value in women and want to encourage in others - it goes a long way! Helping other women achieve their aspirations is as important as achieving your own. We have a huge female team and seeing everyone work together collaboratively, and creatively and with so much positivity always makes me feel so inspired every day!

What does being a mum mean to you?

Its everything! I’m so lucky that I’ve always had such a passion for my work, designing products I love and the company that we’ve built, but as cliché as it sounds, since becoming a mum everything just makes sense now. It’s a love I can’t explain and a daily happiness which is just incredible. I want to be the best mum to him that I ever possibly can be and that will always be my top priority! Looking at the world through a child’s eyes gives you such an appreciation of all the simple, wonderful little things and it’s amazing to be able to do that and teach him about this beautiful world!
