7 Wonderful Stories To Make You Smile

It’s always a good time to spread a little happiness! In celebration of the launch of our You Are Wonderful collection, we’ve put together a list of seven inspiring and feel-good stories to help pour a little happiness into your world this week. With a powerful message behind each real-life story, pour yourself a warm drink and indulge in a little inspirational reading…

From tragedy to triumph, we love the story behind ‘Scamp & Dude’, a unisex fashion brand for both children and grown-ups. In 2015, Jo Tutchener-Sharp suffered a brain haemorrhage and found herself away from her children while undergoing life threatening brain surgery on a lengthy stay in hospital. At that moment, Jo found inspiration to create a brand that helps children to feel more secure when apart from their loved ones. Scamp & Dude’s very first product, the Superhero Sleep Buddies, saw cushions designed with a pouch to hold a photo of a special someone. For each and every one sold, Jo donated another to a child separated from their loved ones due to illness. Fast forward to present day and the brand’s bold and fun prints continue to bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of little ones!

Because everybody and every body is beautiful! Having previously suffered with an eating disorder, Nelly took to Instagram and created a digital safe space for women that normalises body shapes and talks openly about body confidence – in every shape and form! As of today, Nelly’s voice reaches over 240,000 people and continues to inspire and comfort every single day.  We love her girl power!

There’s a reason everyone loves Chrissy Teigen and it’s not just her sense of humour and delicious cookbooks! This summer, many teachers in the US found themselves in the strange position of needing to buy school supplies ahead of online lessons for their students. Chrissy Teigen stepped in to save the day for many teachers by taking to Twitter and asking them to send her their Amazon school supply wishlists. In one day alone, Chrissy cleared 50 wishlists – helping to make online learning all the better for many students!

Having arrived in the UK as a Somalian refugee at the young age of 15, Amal Cowan brought with her sweet memories of cooking with her grandmother as a young girl. Settling into the wonderful life she created for herself in the UK as a British Somali, Amal never forgot about the country of her birth and created Amal’s Pantry, a small business built on genuine passion for cooking. Somalia’s rich and diverse food heritage is brought to the UK via Amal’s handmade Basbas sauces made with fresh and natural ingredients. Mmm, yum!

The year has brought plenty of ups and downs across the world, however Denmark has delivered one shimmering ray of sunshine. Say hello to the world’s first Happiness Museum!  Located in Copenhagen, this small museum discusses all things related to happiness, from the popular term ‘hygge’ to how we can measure happiness. Described as a ‘think tank focussing on well-being’, we hear it’s impossible not to leave smiling!

There’s nothing so inspiring as a story of resilience, courage and bravery. Former model Katie Piper moved to London to pursue a career in TV presenting. In March 2008, she fell victim to a acid attack leaving her severely burned and blind in one eye. Fast forward to today and Katie is a bestselling author, doting mother of two and founder of the Katie Piper Foundation – a charity helping burn victims through their recovery and future wellbeing.

We love black-owned and cruelty-free makeup brand Beauty Bakerie. Founded by Cashmere Nicole, the cosmetic and beauty business was developed while Cashmere battled with Breast Cancer. Specialising in inclusive shades for every skin colour and described by Cashmere as ‘a piece of her peace’, Beauty Bakerie has now been seen on Beyonce, stocked by Cult Beauty and even featured by Selfridges & Co. and Forbes. We love a success story!
